(MEG/Barcelona) – A nature centre a mere 15 km outside Barcelona and a converted shelter in the Catalan Pyrenees have been opened earlier this month by Minyons Escoltes i Guies de Catalunya (MEG, one of the member associations of FCEG, the Federació Catalana d’Escoltisme i Guiatge). Both centres are ready to start into their first summer season and look forward to welcoming Scouts and Guides from across Europe and beyond.

“Can Palós Nature Centre and Mas Olivet Shelter are the first two Centres of the new Catalan Scout Centres Network”, explains Trini Molist, president of Minyons Escoltes i Guies de Catalunya (MEG), “The facilities themselves as well as the organisational concept have been set up in accordance with the values of Scouting and Guiding, such as commitment, volunteering, participation and teamwork.”

“Both Centres are managed by MEG and the Fundació Josep Sans”, adds Trini Molist, “and provide Scout an Guide groups, other associations and interested individuals with the necessary framework for trainings, camps or outdoor programmes, including community service and environmental education projects, and all this in the context of the world wide Scout Movement.”

“While staying at one of the (currently two) Catalan Scout Centres, the Group will be self-organized and responsible for supplies, cooking, cleaning, and good house keeping. The available facilities meet specific conditions, such as being environmentally friendly.“
