New Year’s International Rover Week 2012 @ KISC
2013 will be an extraordinary year at Kandersteg International Scout Centre – it marks the 90th anniversary of the Centre since its inception by Lord Baden-Powell in 1923. To kick the year off in style KISC will be hosting yet another edition of its successful International Rover Week over New Year’s. Once again KISC will be the place to be for all Rovers that are looking for an international experience and border-crossing friendships!
As with previous editions, this New Year’s Edition of the International Rover Week is open for Scouts and Guides from all over the world – Rovers, Rangers, leaders, Network Scouts etc. – between 18 and 30 years old, members of a National Scout Organisation recognised by WOSM or WAGGGS. The event will take place at Kandersteg International Scout Centre from December 27th 2012 until January 2nd 2013. Just like the other editions it is possible to participate both as individual Scout or Guide as well as an entire group. So if you’re looking for an international event outside of your home troop and want to spend the turn of the year in the most international way possible within Scouting the International Rover Week is the ideal event for you! From Thursday to Wednesday, we have laid out an entire programme for participating Scouts and Guides that will cover various activities from Cross Country Skiing over Snow Shoeing to a “Masquerade Ball” themed New Year’s Eve Disco. Even though the programme will keep them busy the entire time of their stay, it will also leave them enough space of their own to plan individual activities for themselves or with the other participants. While the mountains outside will be covered in snow and temperatures are likely to hit sub-zero, the participants will be able to enjoy their days at KISC staying inside the cosiness of the Old Chalet – but if they feel up to it, they can even spend a night in a home-built igloo or snow cave. All participants are also encouraged to bring some specialties from their home country to present to the group during an international evening on Friday night.
The price for the week has been set to 250 CHF (approx. 210 €), a special discount price which is possible thanks to a grant for Winter activities the Centre received a year ago. Included in this price are all the overnights at the Centre, all the regular meals as well as the special New Year’s Even dinner and the following disco night, as well as all the activities offered in the programme laid out by KISC. Not included are activities that the participants choose to do on their own outside of the week’s package. At the end of the week, all participants will also receive a special International Rover Week Badge that, if put on their uniform, will visibly join them to participants of previous International Rover Weeks!
KISC is aiming at 70 participants for the event, but the International Rover Week can only take place if at least 10 people apply. KISC reserves itself the right to limit the number of participants per country during the application process if necessary to ensure the intended cultural diversity of the week and its goal of offering a real international Scouting experience to all the participating Scouts and Guides. The deadline for applications ends on October 31st 2012, but if there is still space available after that date, last minute applications on a first come first served basis will be possible as well. In general, the sooner you apply, the higher your chances of getting offered a spot on the week.
For more information on the New Year’s International Rover Week’s programme, application process or other useful information visit the event’s website! If you want to know more about the location and Kandersteg International Scout Centre in general, have a look at the KISC website!
And if this still doesn’t satisfy your hunger for information, you can also contact the Centre’s Guest Services Director in charge of the International Rover Week via e-mail at gsd@kisc.ch. If you decide to apply for an unforgettable Winter in the middle of the Magic of Kandersteg, you can download and fill in the application form here and e-mail it to the afore mentioned address!
All the Pinkies are looking forward to welcoming you in Kandersteg!
