Guides and Scouts from across Europe were in Brussels on 23-24th May to take part in the 2nd EU Thematic Conference on Volunteering as part of the European Year. This conference was an opportunity for almost 300 volunteers from across the European Union to share their experiences and best practice, looking at the barriers and obstacles through the eyes of individual volunteers, but also identifying the factors which lead to success; and identifying what actions should be taken at European level such as better recognition of the skills which are acquired through volunteering, sustainable funding for volunteering at European level, and the creation of online tools to support the promotion of volunteering and sharing of best practice.
