From Brazil to Berlin
The second European Regional Meeting which took place on the last day of the 39th World Scout Conference provided a space for NSOs/NSAs to reflect on the outcomes and how they would impact on WOSM as a whole, the European Scout Region in particular, as well as NSOs/NSAs themselves.
Henrik facilitated a short exchange on the outcomes and the following points were made:
-
That there is a need for European NSOs/NSAs to be sensitive to the positions of NSOs from outside Europe.
That there is a need for NSOs from the European Scout Region to be better prepared for the World Scout Conference by talking about world level issues beforehand.
Andrea and Christian then shared some more information about the International Year of Volunteering +10 as well as the European Year of Volunteering. Eniko Hellman, International Commissioner from The Hungarian Scout Association then provided examples of some of the practical actions that they are undertaking including a conference with other youth, voluntary organisations, to help promote the value of volunteering.
Christos and Noureddine promoted the next Euro-Arab Meeting which will take place in Algiers, Algeria.
Permi and Henrik promoted the 2nd Europe-Eurasia Meeting which will take place in Prague, Czech Republic in November.
Noting that there had been more than 200 downloads of the Regional Scout Plan since the Regional Meeting on Monday, initial feedback was sought from those who had read through it and there was a positive comment that the European Scout Committee has responded to the request to include key performance indicators.
The meeting then concluded with some final remarks about the outcomes from elections and votes. The outgoing Members of the World Scout Committee from Europe were thanked for their interest in the European Scout Region during their time in office. Gualtiero, Therese and Marios were thanked for their exceptional commitment to World Scouting.
It was noted once again that there were excellent candidates from Europe standing for election. Lidija was thanked for putting herself forward for consideration, and Karin and Joao were congratulated on the successful outcome for them.
In turning to the 12th World Scout Youth Forum and 40th World Scout Conference, both Italy and Slovenia were praised for their excellent bids and presentations. Slovenia was congratulated on the result, which will see both of these important events take place in Europe in 2014.
Although Iceland were the only country bidding for the 2017 World Scout Moot, it was recognised that the conference fully endorsed and supported their candidature. Building on the success of RoverWay 2009, Rovers from all around the world have the opportunity to experience ‘change’ in Iceland.
The meeting ended with some pictures and music from the preceding week.
